Rebel Sport launched an exclusive 2023 NRL Indigenous Supporter Apparel collection to honour Indigenous players and their contribution to the game.

The artwork was created to pay homage to the importance of rugby league in First Nations communities, to do this the artwork had to be designed so that each NRL team could incorporate their team colours. Rebel Sports launched the range two weeks before the NRL Indigenous Round 2023 which was themed “Moving Forward Together”. The launch encouraged rugby league fans to learn the land, learn the history, and use their voice.

Rugby League and First Nations communities have a unique relationship when it comes to rugby league. Yurora reflects that uniqueness in the way it brings community together. The large circles symbolise the unity of people and the way we connect as families, communities, and organisations. Each circle comprises of different styles and strokes to represent the diversity and inclusion we have within our groups. The smaller circles represent our future and the genuine relationships we need in acknowledging the resilience, strength and contribution of our people and culture.

As we look closer, we discover the subtleties of more circle groups that look faded.

This signifies the long history of our people coming together, it recognises that we still gather and come together to this day, acknowledging that we are the world’s oldest living culture. The background is made up of several layers.

These layers connect the land to the sea. The brush strokes are for the water whilst the textured background highlights the country we walk, work and play on, a land that always was, and always will be Aboriginal land.
